On Comments, My Approach and Others

I've seen the likes on my posts start to come in. It's a nice feeling. I'm not expecting or even hoping to scale to the top of the Discover charts or anything like that, but it's a sign (beyond basic analytics) that I'm being read. If nothing else, someone has taken the effort to scroll to the bottom of the page and click that little doohickey.

I've been reading other folks' posts too, many of them with far more response that I expect to see.
(Don't kid me on that whole "well if you practice long enough" bullshit. I've been writing a lot longer than you know. I just don't have it, the chutzpah, the je ne sais quoi, the charisma, the pizazz, the call to action, the magnetism, the whatever you want to call it.)

But one thing I've seen over and over again that I don't like... is how many folks seem to approach implementing comments.

They require your email address.

Now, I'm no stranger to burner addresses, and thanks to my Duck.com account and browser add-on, I have easy access to a nigh infinite supply of them. But it still feels a bit presumptuous.

I wonder if any of you have clicked on the comment link I've chosen to implement?
It's a simple survey hosted on NocoDB. I could easily have set it up using Microsoft's or Google's infrastructure instead, but I've seen material to suggest that NocoDB's terms and conditions are rooted in more privacy and security than those two giants offer, so that's where it's hosted. (Admittedly, the submission form on my personal website still uses Google, but it's just one of the methods of contacting me that's offered there.)

Furthermore, providing me with contact information is entirely optional, and I encourage sending me, not your email, but your Fedi username.
(Sorry, but it's literally my only social media presence these days. )

I'm just as concerned about sharing my email with you as you ought to be with me. My Fedi account, on the other hand is a little more protected from malicious intrusion.

So, I encourage you to click on it if you have something to say to me.
Or don't. It's up to you.
