Self-proclaimed numberlover eschewing an opportunity
I once posted a blog entry that was just the extended Lorem Ipsum (as in the filler text). I was making a statement trivializing the numbers my analytics system at the time was swearing to me that my blog was generating... and I was right.
The numbers were bullshit.
The Lorem ipsum post had some of the highest retention rate of all my entries.
I confess I've been tempted to log the 7-day report that Bear provides as part of the free analytics, but I have to remind myself why I write.
It's not for the numbers.
On my old blog, I celebrated Cybersecurity Awareness Month by dedicating all the posts of the month to educating others. During my final year, I actually hired someone to write an entry for me.
Their first draft read like a SEO post, and I vetoed it.
My goal was education, not clicks.
The second draft was better.
They told me afterward that it was a nice change of pace to be able to write just for pure education and not in the tragic SEO style.
I write because there are words in my head and I want to say them, but when I use my mouth, they get all jumbled up. The written word is a far more reliable medium for me, so that's what I use. And this sort of meandering content really doesn't feel like it belongs on social media (though not opposed to sharing the links there, making it social media-adjacent).
